             loosely fitted into a noN compressible retaining ring, or may be of one
             piece construction with the compressible ring molded and/or
             mechanically connected to the retainer. It is specifically designed to
             form a fluid tight seal when compressed by a packing nut, gland, etc.,
             between fixed surfaces and a cylindrical item passing through it.
